ACI, IATA, CANSO, ICAO convene to discuss risks

Following the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Airports Council International (ACI) and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), held a high level meeting last week in Montreal to jointly express their strong con- demnation of the use of weapons against civil aviation.

Calling the downing of the passenger carrier “unacceptable,” the meeting issued a statement of “deepest condolences” to the families of the passengers and crew who lost their lives, and pledged a number of steps including convening a task force comprised of States and industry experts to examine possible solutions. Findings will be reported to a special meeting of the ICAO Council.
