Premium sunglasses supplier Maui Jim is going from strength to strength in travel retail, with double digit growth in the year to April 2015 and plans for further expansion in the coming months.

The dynamic sunglasses brand has recently mounted high profile promotions in various airports, including Istanbul Atatürk, Cancun, and London Gatwick. The results have been dramatically increased sales and significantly raised visibility for the brand, says the company.

Asia Pacific is proving to be a particularly strong market for Maui Jim, which is known worldwide for its high-performance polarized lenses and its wide range of styles to suit all activities.

Global Travel Retail Director Giles Marks particularly notes successes with Gebr Heinemann stores in Australia, particularly Sydney; with LS travel retail and their ‘Eye Love Perth’, ‘Eye Love Auckland’ concept of dedicated sunglasses stores; and the business with Lotte’s downtown duty free shop in Indonesia; and with the performance of the brand in Shanghai and Beijing with Sunrise Duty Free.

Marks concludes, “In spite of difficult market conditions in several countries and a slowdown in the growth of duty free sales overall, Maui Jim is performing ahead of expectations across the board. We have exciting plans for 2015 and beyond, including, as always, a great selection of new styles joining our portfolio every season.”

Maui Jim points out that it is known among retailers for its rapid supply and return service and its no-quibble warranties. In Asia Pacific a fast turnaround is guaranteed through Maui Jim’s own distribution and service center in Hong Kong. Given the anticipated growth in the Chinese market, a Shanghai center is scheduled to open later this year.
