What a week for the art of the deal!  From huge deals-American Airlines finally emerged from bankruptcy and merged with US Airways on Monday, creating the largest airline in the world, to smaller agreements including contract renewals, expanded territory announcements and new distribution in the travel retail sector, it has been exceptionally busy in the Board Room as the year draws to a close.

 

It even looks like the U.S. Congress may finally approve a budget – a positive development even if it might impact on airfares. Details on page 4.

 

Although not quite as encompassing as the deals above, we discuss new industry agreements among:

BY THE NUMBERS. Industry groups IATA and ACI both posted very positive reports this week. IATA’s Airline Industry Forecast 2013-2017 foresees a 31% increase in airline passenger numbers with the next four years; and ACI notes that this past October was a “banner” month for air travel.
