The 2014 TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes last month was a resounding success . Celebrating the Association’s 30th anniversary, the event was filled with special events, fundraisers, world class speakers, celebrities and business opportunities. TMI will be reporting in-depth results over the next several weeks.

Today’s coverage begins with the election of the new TFWA Board and Management Committee. See pages 1 & 4.

One of the biggest news stories to break in Cannes was L’Oréal‘s announcement that it was expanding its product offering in the travel retail channel with the launch of its Vichy, La Roche-Posay and Kérastase brands in select Travel Retail locations by the end of 2014, to be placed within special Derma Centers and hair treatment areas. Airport Concessions. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) held a Concessions Outreach meeting on November 5, 2014 in preparation for the upcoming Request for Proposals (RFP) for approximately 30 concession locations for duty free, food/beverage, specialty retail, and services. Airport consultant Dr. Patricia Ryan attended the meeting and prepares a special report for TMI. Page 1.

Acquisitions. The Estée Lauder Companies has had a very busy two weeks in the boardroom, adding three high end specialist beauty brands to its prestige portfolio. See details on page 3.

More deals. Global eyewear company Marcolin, producer of such brands as Tom Ford and Gant eyewear, has established a 50/50 joint venture for the Chinese market with the Shanghai-based Ginko Group. Page 4.

Italian eyewear company Safilo Group, under its new Head of Global Travel Retail Omar Hagi, presented its new FW 14 collections during the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes last week, focusing on the launch of the new Bobbi Brown collection and its Carrera brand.

WiTR – Women in Travel Retail, raised a fantastic €35,000 at TFWA in Cannes, reaching its fundraising goal to be able to buy a truck for the All As One charity in Sierra Leone. See page 1 for news about where the next meetings of the women’s networking group will take place.
