UNWTO- the United Nations World Tourism Organization – has tracked nearly one billion international tourists in the first nine months of 2016, 34 million more than in the same period of 2015. See regional results for the January-September period starting on page 1.

In a disturbing development, the US Department of Justice in September reported that former travel retail executive Saul Hyatt pleaded guilty to tax evasion it charges came from the sale of duty free tobacco and alcohol. Hyatt could face up to five years in prison and will be sentenced in January. Story on page 5.
