As we close out 2016, TMI takes a look at three elegant, high-profile venues and events that graced travel retail in the Americas this month. And we take a moment to wish all of our readers a New Year filled with health, peace, prosperity and happiness.
International Shoppes completed its extensive renovation at New York’s JF Kennedy International Airport Terminal 8 this month, and unveiled the final three designer boutiques that crown the multi-year project, designed in collaboration with Westfield and American Airlines. Page 1.
The Shoppes at Rosehall in Montego Bay, Jamaica hosted a spectacular event for Cartier, put together by Aroon and Indru Dadlani of Casa de Oro and Adam Stewart, Deputy Chairman and CEO of Sandals Resorts International and The ATL Group, which is the agent for BMW in the Caribbean. Story and pictures on page 2.
Travelers through Miami International Airport in December were able to discover the Garden of Wonder by Perrier-Jouët. The whimsical immersive pop-up experience displays French digital artist Miguel Chevalier’s “enchanting” virtual garden “Extra Natural” across digital screens as visitors enjoy Perrier-Jouët’s range of luxurious Belle Epoch champagnes from flutes perched in golden reeds. See more on page 3.
Asuncion tender. The Hispano-Chilean consortium Sacyr-Agunsa posted the high bid for the tender to manage the concession to operate Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asuncion, Paraguay, placing them as favorites to win the overall bid, reports John Gallagher. More details on page 1.
BY THE NUMBERS.
ACI reports strong passenger traffic growth for October, although the rate of growth was below trends of the past twelve months.
The U.S. Department of Commerce reports that more Americans are traveling overseas, even as recent numbers show a flattening of some inbound visitation. Page 3.
SUPPLY SIDE. Miami-based Actium has added Q Drinks, a full range of all natural, low-calorie premium mixers to its distribution portfolio for Latin America. Page 2.
