The Travel Retail industry associations were especially busy over the past week:

IAADFS announced revised dates for the 2023 Summit of the Americas. It will now take place April 16-19 instead of April 18-21, although it is still at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida. Page 1.

TFWA and the Duty Free World Council partnered to launch an important new global campaign against illicit trade, counterfeiting and intellectual property theft. See more details on page 1.

South American Duty Free Association ASUTIL formally sent a “Save the Date” for its 2022 Border Conference, which will take pace in Montevideo, Uruguay on November 8, 9 & 10. 

AIRPORTS

In major news from the United States, the Biden White House announced $1 billion in grants to upgrade America’s airport terminals. This is the first installment of $5 billion that has been earmarked for airports over the next five years. Unlike past years where government funding normally went to operational infrastructure investments, this funding is more for modernizing and improving terminals. See story on page 2.

IATA reports that international air travel began recovering in May, as more health restrictions were dropped across the globe. Page 2.
