The focus this week is squarely on the impact that the
Asia-Pacific region is having on the travel retail industry both globally and in the Americas. Coincidentally, our
AT THE POINT OF SALE features are also originating in Asia, and not surprisingly, are hosted by
DFS Group.
Looking ahead at the next 20 years,
IATA forecasts that air travelers will double to 8.2 billion, with growth driven by travelers from Asia-Pacific. More specifically, China will displace the US as the world’s largest aviation market, with India, Indonesia and Thailand each climbing significantly. More details on page 1.
Adding further credence to the IATA forecast, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in partnership with the Global Tourism Economy Research Centre, report that the Asia-Pacific region has been out- performing all world regions in growth in international arrivals since 2005. Page 2
