Venezuela currently owes international airlines US$3.8 billion with no end in sight to the government’s refusal to release the blocked funds. The International Air Transport Association has filed a request for anti-trust immunity with the U.S. Department of Transportation so that airlines can discuss options to maintain connectivity and resolve the payment issue. Congratulations to the cruise industry in Alaska, which welcomed its one millionth cruise ship visitor last Friday morning in Juneau. This is the first time in seven years that the industry reached this milestone, and follows on a 15% market loss since it last reached 1,000,000 in 2009.
