Skytrax names world’s best airports for 2024 – Asia, Europe dominate

Doha’s Hamad International Airport, in operation only for the past 10 years, has been named the World’s Best Airport 2024 in the Skytrax World Airport Awards, which were announced in April. Hamad International Airport also won awards for the World’s Best Airport Shopping and the Best Airport in the Middle East.

The 2023 Airport of the Year and 12-times previous winner, Singapore Changi Airport, reached 2nd place in the global ranking, winning awards for the Best Airport in Asia and the World’s Best Airport Immigration Service.

Seoul Incheon Airport moved up to third place in the global survey rankings, and was named the World’s Most Family Friendly Airport for 2024.

Airline and airport review and ranking site Skytrax uses over 13 million air passenger satisfaction surveys to come up with their ratings.

While Asian airports took the top three places, European airports dominated the top 20 with nine rankings. Charles de Gaulle (CDG) led the pack, in sixth place, following heavy investments in infrastructure improvements ahead of this summer’s Paris Olympics. 

Vancouver International Airport regained its top of the region ranking, being named Best Airport in North America, a title it held for 12 years until 2022.

In the Americas

There were no airports from the Americas in Skytrax’ Top 10, although North American airports chalked up 18 spots on the Top 100 list, along with two airports from South America. 

Canada’s Vancouver International Airport (#17 in the Top 100 list) returned to the top of the region ranking, being named Best Airport in North America. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (#24 overall) came out as the top U.S. airport, and #2 in North America. SEA had been rated the Best Airport in North America for the past two years, before which Vancouver had held the title for 12 years in a row.

Bogota El Dorado Airport (#39 in the Top 100 list) maintained and improved its run of success in the customer survey, taking home awards for Best Airport in South America and Best Airport Staff Service in South America. 

Quito Mariscal Sucre Airport (#41) took top honors as Best Regional Airport in South America. San Jose Juan Santa-maría Airport was declared the Best Regional Airport in Central America & Caribbean, in addition to achieving the Best Airport Staff Service in Central America & Caribbean award. 

Panama Tocumen Airport maintained its remarkable run in the survey, collecting the award for Best Airport in Central America & Caribbean for the third year in a row.

Other highlights from the Americas as described by Skytrax include:

Terminal A, Newark Liberty Airport was named the World’s Best New Airport Terminal, after earlier receiving the highest 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating from Skytrax.

New York LaGuardia Airport came in at #33, up by a remarkable 24 places since 2023.

Houston Airport System was recognized as providing the World’s Best Airport Art for the second successive year at the awards, and Houston Hobby Airport (#29) was declared the Best Regional Airport in North America.

Dallas Fort-Worth Airport (#64) was a first time winner in the World Airport Awards, after it was recognized as providing the Best Airport Staff Service in North America.

The TWA Hotel JFK was voted by passengers as the Best Airport Hotel in North America.

Worth (#64), Denver (#69), Atlanta (#70), Phoenix Sky Harbor (#79), Minneapolis/St. Paul (#86), New York JFK (#93), Boston Logan (#97) and Detroit (#99). Bogota (#39) and Quito (#41) were among the Top 100 honorees from South America.
