CONCESSIONAIRE NEWS. The Nuance/DFASS JV wins a new 7-year contract at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, which is in the midst of a major expansion. HMSHost takes home the Food & Beverage contract. Page 1.

DFS Group has won the coveted Spirits, Wine & Tobacco concession at Changi Singapore airport and unveils its “game changing” store design that it credits for snaring the contract. Page 3.

AT THE POINT OF SALE. Estee Lauder sets up its first airport outpost in Toronto Pearson International Airport with Nuance. The very attractive “shop” comes complete with its mobile POS register, and features Estee Lauder’s new Modern Muse fragrance and its skincare regimen highlighted by EL’s top-selling Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex. PIONEERING SPIRIT. Starboard Cruise Services Chairman Emeritus Jean-Pierre “JP” Miquel was guest of honor and surprise speaker at Essence Corp.’s annual internal meeting held at Miami’s Conrad Hotel last week. Miquel, whose broad-ranging career even includes a stint as Chairman of the Red Cross, presented a truly inspiring talk on Leadership. I was honored to be invited to give a few words of welcome to introduce this industry pioneer.
