Brazil confirms increase in Border duty free allowance

The Brazilian Ministry of Economy has officially confirmed that the duty free allowance for travelers entering Brazil via a land border will increase from $US300 to $US500 from January 1 2020. Ordinance No 601 confirming the new allowance has already been published in the State Gazette.

This measure follows on from a previous announcement on October15, when the government confirmed that the duty free allowance for travelers arriving in the country by plane would increase from US$500 to US$1000

Both measures had been announced by the country’s President Jair Bolsonaro using his Twitter account earlier in October.
