In a retail and food & beverage development projected to generate annual sales of as much as $98 million a year, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) and retail developer/manager Westfield today unveiled more than 60 premier dining and luxury retail shops coming to the New Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles International Airport.

 

Westfield and its tenant partners are investing $80 million to develop the new dining and retail program at TBIT which will introduce 42 concepts to LAX for the first time, including 28 new concepts never before seen in an airport environment. DFS duty free stores will play a featured role in the new terminal, generating additional revenues on top of those produced by Westfield and its partners. Last week, HMSHost (World Duty Free Group) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport announced that they have opened seven new high-end shops catering to international passengers in the airport’s beautiful new Retail Esplanade, located on Concourse F. Please note that in October, World Duty Free Group reported that it would be taking over the HMSHost travel retail stores in North America, which includes 240 stores in 32 locations in the US. That name change will take place effective Dec. 31, 2012. See further details on the ATL stores on page 3.

 

BY THE NUMBERS. The US Department of Commerce’s Office of Travel and Tourism Industries (OTTI) recently released a comprehensive picture of the international and overseas air arrivals to and from the United States, showing that international travel in the region remains very strong, with non-US flagged carriers gaining on US carriers. Highlights of the report can be found on page 4.

 

SUPPLY SIDE NEWS. Brugal launched a limited edition, exclusive ultra-premium rum at a private event at TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes last month. Brugal Papá Andrés, which was created for and enjoyed by the Brugal family for five generations, has never before been released for sale with only a few bottles from the vaults finding their way into the hands of collectors over the years through charity auctions. NOTICE:  The Frontier Duty Free Association has announced that it will be hosting the 1st Canadian Land Border National Duty Free Golf Tournament on May 9, 2013 at the Chateau Whistler Golf Club in Whistler, BC, Canada.
