In other high-profile Association news, TFWA has unveiled that renowned and respected American statesman Colin Powell will be the keynote speaker at the opening Conference of the Tax Free World Exhibition in Cannes on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014. See the rest of the day’s program on page 1.

 

TMI regrets to report that another industry pioneer has passed away: John Mayer, co-founder of duty free distribution company Alexander Dun & Sons, died on June 7, at the age of 87. More details on page 1.

 

2014 Caribbean Week took place in New York City last week and TMI’Larry Luxnermet with St. Maarten’s first Prime Minister, Sarah Wescot-Williams, for a one on one discussion on the importance of tourism and duty free to the island now that it is independent of the Netherlands Antilles confederation.  See page 2.

 

Global spirits sales staged a dramatic slowdown in 2013, inching up by a marginal 0.1% over 2012, reports IWSR. Global Travel Retail spirits sales turned in a stronger performance, however.  Most Latin America spirits sales also advanced, says IWSR. See break-down on page 3.
