This week’s issue of TMI focuses on the Supply Side of the industry, with major developments announced by two important companies with a critical presence in the travel retail channel.
Brown-Forman made big news this past week with the announcement that it is re-entering the Scotch whisky segment of the market with the purchase of The BenRiach Distillery. The purchase of the Edinburgh based company will add three Single Malt Scotch Whisky brands to B-F’s growing portfolio, the first since the company sold its share in Glenmorangie in 2005.  Full story on page 1.
In related news, Brown-Forman names Eric Helms to head up marketing for global travel retail.
In the second major development of last week, Shiseido Group announced that it was joining its Shiseido and Beauté Prestige International (BPI) cosmetics and fragrance businesses into one dedicated travel retail division. The new Shiseido Travel Retail is headed by Philippe Lesné, headquartered in Singapore. Vincent Baland has been named General Manager – Travel Retail Americas. Full details on pages 2 & 3.
In another important Supply Side development, DANZKA Vodka is re-entering the U.S. domestic market later this year. DANZKA, a travel retail favorite, will be imported and distributed by CIL US Wines & Spirits, the American subsidiary of independent and family-owned Camus Wines & Spirits. Page 4.
