In a continuation of our 2016 ASUTIL Conference coverage, TMI highlights some key presentations.
As is traditional, ASUTIL Secretary General Jose Luis Donagaray disclosed regional sales figures from the Association’s 15 member operators, and also touched on the Latin American-related findings of a recent Duty Free World Council/m1nd-set study on Customer Satisfaction and the Path to Purchase, as well as the results of a JTI/CiRstudy on the obstacles facing tobacco sales and the impact this could have on duty free. Dufry Brazil & Bolivia Managing Director Gustavo Fagundes delivered one of the best presentations of the conference, delving into the current political and economic crisis in Brazil, but also described how the transformation taking place in Brazil’s airports is preparing the country for a better future. Page 2.
M1nd-set’s Peter Mohn presented the results of the latest research conducted for ASUTIL, which queried 3,000 travelers about a range of duty free topics, including, new this year, information gathering along the path to purchase, and attitudes towards duty free shopping among millennials. Page 3.
In other news, a joint venture between DFASS and Estée Lauder Travel Retailing last Friday celebrated the opening of six branded beauty boutiques at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) international Terminal D – two locations each for Aveda, Jo Malone London and M.A.C. Page 1 & 4.

CIL US kicked off DANZKA Vodka‘s US launch on June 8 with a special launch party in the Big Apple. The launch is getting extra support with special promotions in travel retail at Dufry stores in Chicago, Newark, Houston and Seattle airports. Page 5.
