Topping off an extremely active week in the Americas, ARI North America today unveiled its completely refurbished transborder duty free store in Montreal Trudeau International Airport. Following an extensive remodel, the new The Loop Duty Free offers travelers an upgraded and expanded selection of fragrances, cosmetics, wines, spirits and other luxury items, Jackie McDonagh, general manager, Aer Rianta International North America tells TMI. In another news-worthy retail debut, Tea Forte has opened its first ever retail shop in Boston, Massachusetts. The Pop-Up concept is the precursor of a permanent store that will be opening a block away in early 2018. See page 1.

 

INDUSTRY OVERVIEW 
TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen presented a detailed State of the Industry overview in the opening conference in Cannes that was at once cautionary and hopeful. The industry must work as a united unit to promote the channel and drive awareness to governments throughout the world, and work to control those things that are within its power to affect, he warned. CiR is beginning to work on its most comprehensive traveler and segmentation study, in an effort to provide retailers and brand owners with a better understanding of their traveling shopper customer base. More information on page 3.
ACI reports that the global airport industry is making progress in addressing its CO2 emissions, and has passed a milestone with more than 200 airports now certified by the independent and voluntary Airport Carbon Accreditation program.  Story on page 5.
