Last week ended with news of the opening of the new Duty Free City flagship store on the US border with Mexico in San Ysidro, California, and this week begins with the major story that the respected European airport operator out of Germany – Fraport – was entering the US in a big way through its acquisition of the award-winning airport concessions developer AIRMALL USA. Meanwhile, the international community continues to seek ways to avoid another tragedy like the recent downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, and the aviation industry’s leading trade groups – ACI, IATA, CANSO and ICAO — met in Montreal to condemn the use of weapons against civil aviation and examine possible solutions.
